One of my favourite genres — I’ve always wanted to create a comic-style tunnel shooter myself. The execution here, especially the fireworks idea, is really unusual and original! The scoring system is a bit unclear though — it would be great to have a tutorial at the start explaining how points are awarded.
As a primarily mechanics based programmer, I really enjoyed working with the simplicity of the gameplay. All comic styled art came from Qizilan, and I believe she did a great job as always.
In relation to scoring clarity, this was challenge which I tried to rectify with the starting UI. Though, maybe a one-time tutorial could have made the game clearer. Since this was a university project, we had a 15-second restriction placed on our gameplay which made us hesitate adding too much content. For example, Qizilan wanted to have a firework show at the end of three playthroughs to show off previous playthroughs. I loved the idea, but was concerned about this breaking the time rule of the brief we were given. I definitely think allowing the player to observe their playthrough could have aided in tutorialisation as well.
I'm glad we were able to provide you a game from one of your favourite genres!
