A very cute 2D project and a wonderful throwback to classic arcade vibes. It feels like Limbo, but painted in cheerful colors and featuring a charming little mermaid. Her quirky way of moving — kind of like a knight in chess — was a bit surprising at first, but it doesn’t hurt the gameplay at all. In fact, it adds a fun twist to the whole experience!
Glad you enjoyed Tales of the Abyss!
Limbo was in fact one of our references at the time, because of our use of light mechanics. Of course, being compared to a classic like Limbo is a huge compliment! To contrast the lack of vision, we decided to use bright colours so the player could react quicker to enemies and hazards.
We had several animators for this game which allowed us to be creative with the animations present in game. Whilst there is positives to this, our animators vary in art styles which made sticking to a singular art style challenging. Despite this, I am happy with how the animations turned out, and happy this did not impact your experience gameplay wise.
